So, the PS4 is announced to have an 8-core AMD jaguar processors. Rumors say it will be around 1.6Ghz to 2.2Ghz. As well as 8GB of GDDR5 RAM. xbox720 is rumored to be the similar.
How do you think this will effect the gaming PC market maybe one year from now?
Current games are mostly only using dual-cores and quad-cores. And don't benefit from having eight cores. This is because most games are made for consoles and than ported to PCs. The PS3 for example is something like 3-core 3.2Ghz, 512mbs RAM.
Which has also resulted in the relatively slow progress in graphics in games in general. Does Black OPs 2 REALLY look that much better than MOD3?
It seems like games being produced a year from now and onward will be optimized to run on eight-core computers.
So I'm thinking that maybe this will change the future requirements for a gaming rig 1-2 years from now. Getting a quadcore i5 or i7 computer might be a serious mistake - resulting in an expensive bottleneck in the near future. Getting 4GB might also be a mistake, though RAM is cheap to upgrade.
