WellPoint is going to score hospitals on a test with 51 indicators for patient treatment quality. The indicators include preventing patients from relapse, following a safety checklist and patient satisfaction.

?The change is part of a broader shift within the health industry to compensate providers based on the quality of their care, instead of the volume of tests and treatments they perform. Next year, as part of the health-overhaul law, the Obama administration will rework how the government pays hospitals through Medicare so facilities with better-quality treatment outcomes get higher reimbursements,? said the Wall Street Journal today.

$$ ? Public Relations Opportunity: Hospital marketing/PR departments need to educate physicians/providers on this new change that will cascade throughout all payers. It only takes the first one to cause the entire industry to follow suit, and the pressure will be on providers to deliver higher-quality treatment rather than higher volume. Having worked in health care marketing my entire career, hospitals focus less on provider relations and more on patient relations. There?s an opportunity to create integrated programs to help push quality treatment from all sides of the health care equation. In addition, PR can share these stories with patients (old, new and soon-t0-be) that quality treatment is a first priority.

Sexual Health Education ? A Brief Article on Men's Sexual Health ...

Most people are unaware that impotence, or erectile dysfunction, is often a sign of something wrong physically, and not psychologically, which does mean it can be curable.

Sexual impotence is a very misunderstood medical condition in today?s society and is often poorly managed. There are two primary factors that could contribute to this poor track record.

1. Fear, guilt, shame and worry of talking about anything sexual with others due to the social stigma of discussing sexually related issues.

2. Ignorance of sexual matters and a false belief in the common myths surrounding impotence that lead people to wrongly believe that the problem is psychological in nature.

These two factors explain why most cases of impotence do not come to light and why the few that do are grossly mismanaged. In light of these issues, it should come as no surprise that so many people believe impotence can?t be cured.

This mistaken belief in impotence being based on psychological factors is unfortunate, as erectile dysfunction can be treated and cures.

Andrologists are very aware that impotence, or erectile dysfunction, has long been a very common problem. It is said to afflict as much as 10 percent of the male population. Yet in men older than 40, up to 52% of males are afflicted.

Despite this staggering incidence, few cases come to light.

Contrary to popular belief, impotence is almost never an ?all or none? phenomenon. Even some doctors have the wrongful belief that men can either achieve a good erection on some occasions or remain completely flaccid. This belief is completely false. Males who have erectile issues do have regular desires and they can achieve an erection, but that erection is often not hard enough or it may not last very long. This is why most andrologists prefer to describe the condition as erectile dysfunction, to describe only a partial loss, rather than impotence, which desribes a complete loss. And yet the vast majority of people still believe psychological issues are the cause, rather than physical.

Fortunately that common belief is slowly turning around. Andrological research has advanced in recent years to conclusively realize that between 80 and 90 percent of men suffering from chronic impotence are afflicted from a problem within the body and not within the mind. The actual physical problem is diagnosed using andrological investigation and then treated without the need to use any psychological methods.

In this day and age, when so many medical advances occur on a regular basis, it is unusual that research into male sexual problems remains so far behind. For example, female reproductive problems are the focus of highly specialized medical fields such as obstetics and gynecology and have been around for a long time. This medical field has become so wide that many gynecologists restrict themselves to a particular specialization within a sub-specialty area, such as gynecological oncology, high risk pregnancy, infertility, among others, as the field has advanced so far. It may be of interest to our readers to deliberate in passing the reasons for this delayed understanding of the subject.

There are two primary reasons: The first of these is male chauvinism. Throughout human history, most of our societies have been patriarchal and male-dominated. Many men simply can?t override their own egos in order to admit that something might be wrong with their manhood. Ironically, it is these very men who researched the female reproductive system and helped develop the branch of gynecology and obstetrics. Yet men?s sexual health remains largely misunderstood.

The second reason could be explained as a belief that evolved based on Sigmund Freud?s teachings. This led to the erroneous conclusion that most male sexual problems had their roots in the mind.

Whereas most branches of medicine have taken their roots from biology ? the study beginning with an understanding of the anatomy(structure) and physiology(function) of that part, and proceeding to then figure out what happens when anatomy or physiology goes wrong thus causing disease (pathology), the male reproductive system alone took its roots from psychology rather than biology, thus causing tremendous damage.

This explains why most people know that it takes a complex concatenation of neuromuscular phenomena to lift a finger but fail to realize that equally complex phenomena are needed to lift the penis!!
